During the winter of 2001/2002 Acton Islanders pulled together and successfully defeated an attempt to change the zoning of part of Acton Island from residential to institutional. It took a lot of work but it was worth it.
It became obvious during that battle that we needed an ongoing association to ensure that matters affecting the island, the road leading to it or properties accessed by it were monitored and that property owners have a say in these matters. Therefore, the Acton Island Association was formed during the summer of 2002.
The purposes of the Acton Island Association are to:
- Safeguard the present zoning and quality of life on Acton Island and the properties accessed by Acton Island Road
- To develop a communication network for its members
- To monitor proposals for development and change
Your association will be monitoring all council meetings and all MLA and other association meetings where matters potentially affecting its members are discussed. It will also deal with zoning or other matters that arise during the year.
The preferred method of communication with members is via email. However, if you do not use email we will contact you via mail.
Please consider joining our association by completing the application form on this web site and forwarding it together with a cheque for $25 to the address on the application form.
